Airbnb host's son offers guest pick up and what happened next blows people away

Coming to a brand new country solo is no small feat, but that's exactly what one woman did after her house was tragically burned down in California during the wildfires of January 2025. On the Girls Overheard Podcast, Ash Reid, Eilidh Wells, and Lauren Fairbairn discussed a story that sounded like the beginning of a Hallmark movie, or a horror one, and they couldn't decide which it was.

They posted a video of the discussion on TikTok, captioning the video: "Sorry, are we readinga movie script here? Romcom or horror?" The woman they were speaking about had come to just outside of London to rent an Airbnb after tragedy hit.

Ash explained to the other two that the woman had no idea how she was going to get to the Airbnb when she arrived in the UK, because it seemed "like it's out in the sticks".

So, "she messaged the woman who owned the Airbnb" asking whether she needed to get a train, bus, or taxi, as it was a "farm-type house," so in the middle of nowhere.

The Airbnb owner asked where she'd be getting off, and then offered to get her son to pick her up.

Eilidh and Lauren looked shocked by this, looking more horrified when they learned that the woman did indeed get picked up by the Airbnb host's son.

It turned out the woman's son was the same age as the woman who had come to the UK, and they were "chatting all the way back, really getting along".

He dropped her off where she was staying, showing her the room, and then he took a chance and asked her whether she wanted to go out for dinner.

Lauren then said: "I'm creeped out but I hope this has got a fairytale ending".

She said yes, and he booked somewhere for them to go, and it turned out that they "liked similar food" and "had similar interests".

Even down to the fact that their favourite songs were the same, even though the band was really niche.

Naysayers in the comments believed that the whole tale was made up, but Meg, who posts on TikTok as @morewithmegs, shared her love story. And it does have a happy ending!

Meg captioned her post saying that she'd always be "grateful" for Airbnb for introducing her to her partner in the most serendipitous way.

She wrote: "I never believed in fate, but my lordy, the last six months have been nothing BUT fate. Booktok, I hope you're ready," she joked, saying that her tale was something out of a romance novel.

People joked that they wanted a "movie or a book" from the story of their love.

In the photo carousel, Meg showed all the screenshots from her booking the place to stay and speaking to her now partner's mum.

"Some days, I just can't believe how we met," she started the carousel, sharing a photo of her partner kissing her as she smiled contentedly at the camera.

The screenshots of her conversation with her now partner showed how they discussed where she'd get food and how if she couldn't get anything she'd just have "a big breakfast in the morning".

But we bet she's very glad she took him up on his kind offer of dinner out! What an adorable and unique love story!
